TikTok Thumbnail Downloader

Save the cover frame from a TikTok video in full quality. The one-click TikTok tool is on the way — here is everything you need to know about TikTok covers in the meantime.

The TikTok extractor is live (experimental). Try it on the home page. TikTok protects its cover images more aggressively than other platforms, so results can be hit or miss — treat this one as a work in progress.

What is the standard TikTok thumbnail size?

A TikTok cover — the thumbnail shown on a profile grid and in search — is 1080 × 1920 pixels at a 9:16 vertical aspect ratio, the same frame as the video itself. Custom covers should be saved as JPG or PNG. This is very different from the widescreen 16:9 thumbnails used on YouTube and Vimeo: TikTok is built for full-screen vertical viewing, so a horizontal image will be letterboxed or cropped.

Mind the profile-grid safe zone

TikTok shows covers in two places, and they crop differently. In the full-screen feed you see the whole 9:16 frame, but on the profile grid TikTok trims to roughly a 3:4 rectangle — cutting the top and bottom of your cover. TikTok also overlays the first line of your caption near the bottom. The practical rule: keep faces, logos, and key text in the centre of the frame so nothing important gets clipped in either view.

Why download a TikTok thumbnail?

Creators pull TikTok covers to build a consistent, recognisable profile grid, to reuse a cover across other platforms, to archive their work, or to study how successful accounts frame their covers for maximum taps. A deliberate custom cover — rather than an auto-picked frame — is one of the simplest ways to lift a profile's view-to-follow rate.

How to get a TikTok cover today

For your own videos, TikTok lets you set the cover during posting: on the editing screen, tap Cover, then choose a frame or upload a custom 1080 × 1920 image. You can also change it later by editing a posted video. Saving someone else's cover is harder, since TikTok does not expose a simple public image link the way YouTube does — which is exactly the friction our upcoming tool is designed to remove.

Designing covers that work

The design principles carry over from other platforms even though the shape does not. Strong contrast, a clear focal point, and minimal, legible text all help — see our click-through-rate guide for the colour and typography side, and our size guide for how aspect ratios and resolution affect sharpness.
