How to Save a YouTube Thumbnail on iPhone & Android

Saving a YouTube thumbnail to your phone sounds like it should be one tap — but YouTube doesn't offer a "save thumbnail" button, and long-pressing the video gives you share options, not the image. Here is how to get the actual full-resolution picture onto your iPhone or Android device in under a minute.

The fastest method: use the extractor

This works identically on iOS and Android and gets you the highest resolution available:

1. Open the YouTube app or site and find the video.
2. Tap Share and then Copy link (or copy the URL from your browser's address bar).
3. Open ExtractThumb in your mobile browser and paste the link into the box.
4. Tap Get thumbnail. You'll see every available resolution.
5. Tap Open on the resolution you want, then save the image (steps below).

Saving the image on iPhone (iOS / iPadOS)

1. With the thumbnail open in Safari, press and hold the image.
2. Choose Add to Photos (or Save to Photos) from the menu.
3. The full-resolution JPG lands in your Photos app, in the most recent album.

Saving the image on Android

1. With the thumbnail open in Chrome, press and hold the image.
2. Tap Download image.
3. Find it in your Gallery or Files app under the "Download" folder.

Some Android skins (Samsung One UI, others) label the option "Save image" — the result is the same.

Which resolution should you save?

For almost any use, choose Max resolution (1280 × 720). If that option doesn't appear, the source video was uploaded below 720p and the largest real file is Standard or High quality — ExtractThumb only shows resolutions that actually exist for that video, so you won't accidentally save a tiny placeholder. A note on Shorts
