About
A faster way to grab a thumbnail.
ExtractThumb is a small, free utility that pulls the cover image out of any YouTube video. Paste a link, pick a size, and save it — no account, no watermark, no software to install.
Who uses it
The people who reach for a thumbnail grabber are usually doing real work, not just browsing:
- Creators and designers studying how top channels frame, color, and scale their thumbnails for inspiration or layout templates.
- Bloggers and writers who need a crisp, high-resolution featured image for an article instead of a blurry screenshot.
- Editors cutting a subject out of an existing thumbnail for reaction or commentary graphics.
- Creators archiving their own work — recovering lost cover art or moving it to another platform.
How it works
Every YouTube video has a set of thumbnail images stored at public, predictable web addresses on Google's servers. ExtractThumb reads the 11-character video ID out of your link, builds those image addresses, checks which sizes actually exist for that video, and shows them to you. There's no scraping and nothing hidden — just the images YouTube already publishes.
ExtractThumb is an independent tool. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by YouTube or Google. “YouTube” is a trademark of Google LLC.
